Rolled over!

Turning over!Last night was quite a milestone. I was entertaining guests - Bob & Charlene (Bob works with Dad at IBM) - and I thought I'd show them a new trick. So I was lying on my back on the floor in the lounge room, then I kicked my leg over and with my arm in the right position, ended up on my tummy! Pretty cool huh? Then once I was on my tummy, I was able to roll over again (in the same direction) and end up on my back again!

Also on Saturday, we went to Toys R Us and purchased a play yard. We also got a canopy for it and a mosquito net so I can be outside and not get sunburnt or get bitten by mossies. Check out the photo of me in it.

Sleeping

I've now started sleeping on my side, kind of like I'm in the process of rolling over from my back to my front. Its comfortable, although it might not look it.

I usually go to sleep about 7:30pm after my bath and bottle. I'm usually awake when my parental unit puts me down, but I nod off fairly quickly, maybe after a short sook and the addition of a "sucking thing" (pacifier, aka "mute button"). I typically sleep until about 6am, sometimes earlier, for which my parents are most grateful!

Had a big day today. Dad and I went out shopping for my Mummy, since tomorrow is Mother's day. I can't tell you what we got her - it's a secret and Mum might be reading this!

In the afternoon, we all went to Rufus and Peggy Credle's 25th Wedding Anniversary reaffirmation/wedding. Dad works with Rufus at IBM. It was lots of fun. Their wedding in 1979 was apparently very simple - registry office, just a few friends. Today there were 100-150 people. I made some new friends there, and was nice to everyone.

And this evening, Grandma & Grandad Watts arrive! Yay! They're flying in from England after spending several weeks there. They are her for a week. Should make for lots of great photos. I got Grandma something for Mother's Day too! Not telling!

"Da da!"

A Kosta Boda bottle for my Mummy
A Kosta Boda bottle for my Mummy

Well, here's something different. I've started to make more noises, now, including what could be considered to be "Da da!". There's also been "wa wa wa wa wa wa" and other stuff. Not to mention raspberries - the best ones are the ones made while I'm eating or drinking - my staff love that!

Grandma and Grandad are here now and are here to entertain me for a week. Yesterday was Mother's Day, so I gave my Mummy some presents: a gift certificate for her nails shop, plus a lovely limited edition art glass bottle ("Art glass bottle designed and signed by Bertil Vallien and handmade by the masters at Kosta Boda glassworks"), plus some flowers.

I also got Grandma some photos of me in a little album and a massage at a nice place back in Brisbane.

For Mother's Day, we had the Kouris over (Dick, Gerrie and Amanda) over for lunch. Amanda is my godmother, so I wanted my Grandparental Units to meet her. It was a very pleasant afternoon. Mummy made some yummy dishes: lamb cutlets, prawns (shrimp) on skewers, and chicken, all very nicely done. Dad cooked them on the BBQ outside. Gerrie made a terriffic salad, and we washed it all down with some excellent wines. A great day.

I'm rolling over onto my tummy quite regularly now - in fact I like it. The trick is that I'm still not very good at rolling back. So I have to ask my staff to help me back.

Check out my new sounds!

I went to my six-month Doctor appointment today. I'm in tip-top condition, so the Doctor says. I'm 16 lb 4 oz (7.3 kg), and 26¾" (68 cm) tall. That's the median average for weight and the 75% range for height. So I'm tallish for my weight apparently.

I also had 3 needles: HIB (vaccine against Hemophilus Influenza B), Hepatitis B, and DTaP (for diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough). I only cried for about 30 seconds this time - I'm a big girl now after all!

After the doctor appointment, the five of us (me, Mum, Dad, Grandad, Grandma) all went to Babies R Us to buy me more stuff! Some new clothes (size 6-9 months!) and a jumper - its a seat that hangs from a doorway and I can practice standing in it. It will help me strengthen my legs. Cool huh?

Today was Grandma and Grandad's last day here with me. I had a fun week with them, that's for sure. They are flying back to Brisbane.

Yesterday was an interesting mix of tears and big smiles. Firstly, tears: Early in the morning, just after he changed me, Dad and I were going downstairs to get my bottle. At the top of the stairs, he lost his footing and over we went. He landed on his bottom and back, and slid down the 4 steps before the landing, getting a nasty carpet burn in the process. I was on his arm at the time, and I may have bumped my head on the carpet too (we're not sure). I started crying a lot (tears too!), waking up the rest of the house. I calmed down after a few minutes, but Mum and Dad were concerned that I may have injured myself. So we went to visit the doctor for a checkup. The doctor said I was OK but to keep an eye on me for concussion.

In the afternoon, we went to Logan's, a lovely garden nursery and cafe. We had lunch there and wandered around looking at the plants. Then we went next door to their wine cellar where we tasted some Argentinean and Chilean wines (bought a case, too). Later that afternoon, I got to ride in my jumper for the first time. That was lots of fun and I played in it for maybe 15 minutes. Then in the late afternoon, we all went for a walk around Shelly Lake, which is only about a 5 minute drive from home.

So quite a mixed day indeed!

I had a fun day with my Mummy today. In the morning, I went to the Infant Cognition Center at Duke University to participate in their study about how babies like me react to repetition of shapes. I think I did well, but it wasn't really a test anyway. I got a cool "I'm an infant scientist" t-shirt and a certificate too.

Then in the afternoon, Mummy and I went to the pool in our development for the first time ever. We went with the Fearns - Heather with Kate and Rachel. Ellie from next door and her Grandad Ken were also there. At first I didn't like being in the pool very much - I cried a bit - but then Mummy explained how it was safe. And I saw that Ellie, Kate and Rachel were having fun, so I tried again. And soon I was enjoying myself too - I splashed around the pool, kicking my feet like crazy, with a big smile on my face.

I hope to go swimming again tomorrow - maybe Dad will come home in time to come too. Lots of fun after all!

Home Alone

Last Wednesday and Friday we visited the neighbours. On Wednesday, we were over at Mark and Brook's for dinner. They live in the house next door to the east of us - on my side of the house. On Friday, we were invited to drinks by Ken & Jean who live on the other side.

Baby monitorIn both times, I entertained everyone until it was my bedtime, then Dad took me home and put me to bed in my crib. Then he went back to the party with the baby monitor. The range of the monitor is such that I can be in my house and Mum & Dad can be next door and still hear/see me via the monitor. Cool huh? Dad wondered if it can go as far as Starbucks!

IBM visitor

Today Mummy and I went to visit her vice president, Betsy. I got to see Mummy's work and I got an IBM visitor badge too! We were visiting to talk about what Mummy is going to do when she goes back to work in August (I'm going to daycare in July). Everyone was nice to me and it was lots of fun. Mummy is looking forward to going back to work.

I'll be 7 months tomorrow - how about that!

Yesterday, we went to the pool. We took our good friends the Fearns with us: Rachel and Kate with their parents Paul and Heather. We had a spot around a table with a big umbrella, brought drinks and chips and I had some fruit too - spent a couple of hours there. I like being in the pool now - I can sit in my pool seat and float around. Mum & Dad push me around and I kick my feet a bit too, to help them along. Of course I have suncream on plus a hat and a shirt - don't want to get sunburnt do I!

Now that I've ditched the infant car seat (I'm a big girl now), I've got a new car seat which stays in the car all the time. So now, when we go to the shops to do grocery shopping, I now sit in the shopping trolley/cart on the kid's seat. It's really cool - I get to see what's going on and I'm free to look around (I'm still strapped in so I don't fall). And I get to meet lots of new fans being up there too. Excellent!
