I turned 20 yesterday. Hooray! I'm no longer a teenager!
Monday, 04 July 2005
I can count up to 10! When I'm walking down the stairs (with Mummy or Daddy's help), as I take each step, I say "1", then "2". Sometimes I lose track of where I am and I start from 1 again, but today I got all the way up to 10 with only a little bit of help.
Saturday was fun. The Fearns came over to our place - Paul, Heather, and Kate and Rachel. We all went to the pool for an hour or so, then everyone came back and we had a BBQ on the deck. I had lots of fun playing with Rachel and Kate, and then after dinner, we had some fireworks. They were fun to look at, and I wasn't scared with the sounds and the bright lights at all!
It's been several months, but I've got a temperature today. It started yesterday - my right eye was getting lots of yellow goop in it. And by the evening, I was all hot. We were due to go next door to Ken & Jean for a BBQ (Ellie was there too) but Mummy didn't think it would be wise for me to go in case I got the other kids sick. So Daddy & I stayed home and watched TV (I just rested on Daddy's lap) until I had my bath and went to bed, then Daddy went over next door and took the baby monitor so they could check on me. I still have a temperature this morning, but the Tylenol is helping keep it to normal levels.
Today's the 4th of July - we have two days off - Monday and Tuesday - so I get four days with Mummy & Daddy. Shame I'm sick but.

Well I'm at home sick today. We went to the doctor after my teacher reported that I had a 102°F temperature. Turns out I have an ear infection (sound familiar?). So I have some antibiotics and some ibuprofen to take.
Did I tell you that my teacher Ms Esther finished up on Friday. She said she'll miss me and the other kids in the classroom and she said she'll come visit us. So my new teacher is Ms Tisha - I had her as a teacher when I was in the infant class - I like her. That's good.
The highlight of my long weekend was the fireworks on Sunday night. I went to bed as usual about 7:30pm, then about 8:30pm Daddy put me in the car and we drove to a special spot to see the fireworks. I stayed alseep in my car seat until just before 9:15 when they started. I then got out and sat on Mummy's lap and watched them. I said "woah" a few times too.
Speaking of which, that's my new word - "woah". If I fall asleep in my car seat and Daddy stops such that I lurch forward in my seat, I'll wake up, say "woah" once or twice (one time, I said it four times in a row), then I promptly go back to sleep. Mummy and Daddy think it is amusing!

Having a great weekend so far. Yesterday, Saturday, we went to the Museum of Life and Science in Durham. They have some great hands-on science stuff plus a very cool Butterfly House. Then in the afternoon after my nap, we went to the grocery store to get some dinner, then we went to the pool for about an hour. I'm getting better in the pool. It isn't as scary as it was, and I like to collect people's noodles and balls and throw them in the pool too.
This morning, Daddy and I went for a bike ride to Shelley Lake. We left about 9am but by the time we got back after 10, it was getting pretty hot. Fortunately, Daddy brought some water with us so we had that to drink while we stopped at the lake to look at the ducks.

Schnoolie addict
I've regressed. With all the changes at school, Mummy and Daddy think that I've regressed back to being a baby. I want my schnoolie (pacifier) most of the time. If I get stressed or even if I just see it, I start saying "my noonie, my noonie" over and over until I get it. Last weekend while I was in the car on the way back from the museum, I said it for 15 minutes straight (including lots of crying and stuff) until eventually I fell asleep.
Daddy thinks it is a combination of (1) Miss Esther has gone and I miss her; (2) there's a new girl in my class from the infant room and she cries a lot (3) two of teachers (including my new primary teacher) are from my infant class. Hopefully I'll get better soon and I won't need my schnoolie any more.

I can now say my own name! "Zoe" or maybe "Doe". How about that!
Saturday, 16 July 2005
My addiction to my schnoolie continues. It turns out there are 3 or 4 other kids in my classroom whose parents have expressed concern about their child regressing, so it's not just me. Everyone thinks it is because of the new girl in my classroom - she cries a lot. I hope she feels better soon so we can all get back to normal again.
Mummy's trying a different tack: to try and wean me off my schnoolie, she's cut the end off one of them to see if I can be dissuaded from using it. We'll see if that works.
We had a nice day today. This morning we met Katie and Kate at Starbucks for coffee and some muffins. Katie told us that she's now a permanent employee of ABC 11, the local ABC affiliate. She was previously a summer intern but they like her work so much they're hiring her! Congratulations Katie! She's going to be the health reporter once the existing one moves up to anchoring one of the news broadcasts. So I guess that means she'll be on TV just about every day! Pretty cool.

Daddy's very excited. He just received the first order from his new photography business, ZAM Photography. Woah!

I went to my follow-up doctor visit this morning and Dr Meares said that my ear infection has gone, but I have a cold - a runny nose and a bit of a cough. At least the infection is gone. I actually liked the antibiotic, so much so that I asked for it whenever I saw it - I call it "my yummy"!
I was eating a strawberry this afternoon and I spilt a few drips on the floor. I looked down and pointed at it and said "mess!".
Then later, we went to the pool again. It was quite hot today - 39°C - so it was a good day for it. I'm liking the pool more, especially when there are pool toys.

Happy birthday for today Aunty Jen!
I've been very busy these past few weeks - no time for photos or entries in my diary much! Did you know that I can say my colours? If Mummy or Daddy points to something and asks me what colour it is, I can say! I know red and green and purple and pink and orange and black and white and others too. I know my numbers too - I can count from 1 to 10 as I walk down the stairs.
It's been really hot here this past week or two. Yesterday it was 40°C (about 104°F). When I got home from school, we went to the pool. I like it more in the pool, but I still like to be out of the pool picking up everyone else's toys and playing with them. I have my own ball and noodle but other toys are always good to play with. At school today, it was Splash Day - I got to wear my swimmers to school and play in the water and ice - fun!
Last weekend, I went to see Sleeping Beauty at the theatre. I was really interested and watched the entire thing - about 75 minutes of it, with no intermission. It was a great show. This Saturday I'm going to the Ice Cream Social at the theatre - hopefully it will be cooler that this week (it may rain, however).
Last weekend I also went to PlaySpace a really fun place just for me. It has all sorts of fun activities that I like to do - lot of block and toys, a cool train to play in, a little hospital, a grocery store, a water park (complete with aprons so I don't get wet splashing), a stage with costumes to dress up in, a castle and more! I want to go back again!

Brooke's new baby sent me an email the other day. "Bee" is doing well - the doctor took a photo while they were having a checkup. Here's what Bee wrote:
"Hello to all! We went to the doctor yesterday to have the nuchal translucency test done and everything looked great from that stand point. It took the doctor 30 mins to get me still enough to take the pictures he needed for his test. He told Mommy and Daddy that it had never taken him this long to get a baby in the right position. Mommy thinks ADHD has already kicked in. I was all over the place. Daddy thinks I was working on my vertical jump.
The doctor made Mommy get off the table and jump up and down to get me to flip. Boy, was that a sight!! I finally caught on and flipped on my back so they could get a great side profile. Nice for the padres, they were able to watch me for 30 mins. I was pulling my hands to my face and jumping around. They thought is was the most amazing experience they have ever experienced.
I wanted them to rest knowing I am just fine in here. My heartrate is still really fast, 175 beats per minute. That is completely normal, but on the high end of normal. The old wise tale would predict I am a girl, but the doctor said there is no proven science to support it. I am 4 1/2 inches long which is long for my age. I am measuring one week older. They wanted to change my due date, but the doctor is going to wait and see if I continue to measure one week older next month.
As you can see I am much cuter than I appeared in my last photoshoot. The photographer is getting better. In both of the pictures I am on my back. You should be able to see my head in the top right with my face pointing up and then follow the rest of my body to my feet.
Mommy is feeling great, just really hot due to the temperatures in Raleigh over 100 degrees. She has gotten her energy back and all morning sickness has passed.
Love to you all, "Baby Bee"

I'll be 21 tomorrow! That means I can vote and drink alcohol out in public and stuff - woohoo! Doesn't it?
I'm a big girl now. This morning we went out for bagels and I told Daddy "no high chair" when we went to go get one for me to sit in. I wanted to sit in a big chair, and so I did. I also like saying "hold it" when I want to have something. Fortunately, I know the magic words - I know to say "please" and "thank you", but sometimes I need to be reminded to say them (not always though). And when someone sneezes, I say "bless you".
After bagels we went to Bed Bath & Beyond, but got stuck there because the car wouldn't start. Fortunately there was a service station nearby and they worked out that the battery had died. In the meantime, however, Daddy called Katie and she came to our rescue (yay!) - she took Mummy and me home while Daddy sorted out the car. Thanks Katie - you're a pal! (and a new homeowner too!)
